About Cindy

After retiring from teaching in Michigan in 2017, my husband and I moved to Hawaii. We spent years vacationing to all of the islands, but when it came time to find a permanent home we settled on Maui because we fell in love with the community here.

I am an experienced classroom teacher and Reading Specialist. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Education for grades K-8, with a minor in Early Childhood Education, and a Master's Degree in Reading for grades K-12. Although my classroom experience was in Michigan, I am up to date on the current Hawaiian curriculum and will make sure your child has the tools needed to succeed.
The reading program I teach is a comprehensive and intense one-on-one program that blends letter recognition, phonemic awareness, sight words, reading strategies, problem solving, comprehension, fluency, and writing skills. I taught this program outside of the classroom for 10 years and loved every minute of it!

Literacy is my specialty and my favorite subject to teach. I love to see the progress students make in reading and writing when given the instruction that fits best. In the classroom I taught all subjects, but when the opportunity to become the school's Reading Specialist presented itself, I left the traditional classroom and began working with students one-on-one and in small groups. That is what I plan to do when tutoring your young student.
